These essential fats are necessary for different physiological functions and must be part of our diet because the body cannot synthesize them on its own. Omega 3 consists of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). They are commonly found in oily fish such as sardines, mackerel, and salmon. It also includes ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) that fish naturally convert to EPA and DHA, but our bodies can only convert small amounts.
